What each tool is good at
These are the capabilities as described on each tool's official page.
Claude Code works across a whole codebase and takes on multi-hour refactors and migrations. It fits the GitHub and GitLab pull request workflow and works in the terminal, the IDE and Slack.
OpenAI Codex runs several agents side by side and handles background tasks such as triage and CI. It shares team skills across the team and helps review the work.

Two questions we hear
Does AI write our production code unsupervised? No. Certified engineers own the architecture, decisions and review.
Does our code go to external AI models? Yes. The code the tool reads is sent to the model provider to generate answers. We set it up under your data policy, for example on your own cloud account and with training on your data switched off, and we agree what it can see before we start.
